حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ حَصِيرَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ قَالَ فَوَلَّى عَنْهُ النَّاسُ وَثَبَتَ مَعَهُ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ فَنَكَصْنَا عَلَى أَقْدَامِنَا نَحْوًا مِنْ ثَمَانِينَ قَدَمًا وَلَمْ نُوَلِّهِمْ الدُّبُرَ وَهُمْ الَّذِينَ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِمْ السَّكِينَةَ قَالَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ يَمْضِي قُدُمًا فَحَادَتْ بِهِ بَغْلَتُهُ فَمَالَ عَنْ السَّرْجِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ ارْتَفِعْ رَفَعَكَ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ نَاوِلْنِي كَفًّا مِنْ تُرَابٍ فَضَرَبَ بِهِ وُجُوهَهُمْ فَامْتَلَأَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ تُرَابًا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْنَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ قُلْتُ هُمْ أُولَاءِ قَالَ اهْتِفْ بِهِمْ فَهَتَفْتُ بِهِمْ فَجَاءُوا وَسُيُوفُهُمْ بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ كَأَنَّهَا الشُّهُبُ وَوَلَّى الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَدْبَارَهُمْ
Narrated to us ['Affan] Narrated to us [Abdul Wahid bin Ziyad] Narrated to us [Al Harith bin Hashirah] Narrated to us [Al Qasim bin Abdurrahman] from [his father] he said: [Abdullah bin Mas'ud] said, "I was with Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam during the battle of Hunain. Then the people turned away from him (from the war) and only eighty Muhajirin and Ansar remained, then we withdrew without turning our backs on the enemy and they were the people to whom Allah sent down sakinah (tranquility)." Ibn Mas'ud said, "And the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, riding on a Baghlah (a horse resulting from the marriage of a donkey and a horse) walked quite quickly until he tilted from the saddle, then I said, 'Go up, Allah will surely exalt you.' The Prophet said: "Bring me a handful of earth." He then sprinkled it all over the enemy's faces until their eyes were filled with dirt. Then the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam called out: "Where are the Muhajirin and Ansar!" I then said, "They're over there." The Prophet then ordered me to say: "Call them!" Then I called them so they came with their swords in their right hands like lightning and the polytheists ran backwards.
