أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الرَّقِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَارِثُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ وَكَانَ مِنْ زُهَّادِ النَّاسِ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَكُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Having reported to me ['Abdurrahman bin Khalid Ar Riqqiy] he said :Narrated to us [Harits bin 'Athiyyah] and he is one of the most ascetic people, from [Hisyam] from [Hammad] from [Ibrahim] from ['Alqamah] from [Ibn Mas'ud] he said : "We used to pray with Rasulullah sallallaahu'alaihiwasallam by saying, 'Assalaamu 'alallah, Assalaamu 'alaa Jibriil, Assalaamu 'ala Mikail (Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mikail)'. Then Rasulullah shallallahu'alaihiwasallam said: 'Do not neglect; "Assalaamu 'alallah (Salvation be upon Allah)" because Allah is Assalaam (The Giver of salvation), but say, "At Tahiyyatut lillaahi wash-shalawaatu wath-thayyibaatu, assalaamu 'alaika ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh, assalaamu 'alainaa wa 'ala 'ibadillaahish-shaalihiin, asyhadu allaa ilaah illallaah Wahdahu laa shariikalah wa asyhadu anna muhammadan abduhu warasuuluh (good respect and blessings be upon Allah. May safety, mercy and blessings remain with you, O Prophet. May salvation also be with the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no Being worthy of worship except Allah alone and He has no partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger)."
