قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فِي أَصْلِ الشَّجَرَةِ الَّتِي قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ يَقَعُ مِنْ أَغْصَانِ تِلْكَ الشَّجَرَةِ عَلَى ظَهْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَسُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ اكْتُبْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ فَأَخَذَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ مَا نَعْرِفُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ اكْتُبْ فِي قَضِيَّتِنَا مَا نَعْرِفُ قَالَ اكْتُبْ بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ فَكَتَبَ هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ فَأَمْسَكَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بِيَدِهِ وَقَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمْنَاكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ رَسُولَهُ اكْتُبْ فِي قَضِيَّتِنَا مَا نَعْرِفُ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَتَبَ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا ثَلَاثُونَ شَابًّا عَلَيْهِمْ السِّلَاحُ فَثَارُوا فِي وُجُوهِنَا فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخَذَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ فَقَدِمْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ جِئْتُمْ فِي عَهْدِ أَحَدٍ أَوْ هَلْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ أَحَدٌ أَمَانًا فَقَالُوا لَا فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا } قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَقَالَ حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ وَهَذَا الصَّوَابُ عِنْدِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

(Ahmad bin Hanbal may Allah be pleased with him) said: Narrated to us [Yazid bin Al Habhab] said: has narrated to me [Hushain bin Waqid] said: has narrated to me [Thabit Al Bunani] from [Abdullah bin Mughaffal Al Muzani] said: we were together with The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him in Hudaibiyah under the tree that Allah Ta'ala mentioned in the Koran. Among the branches were behind the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, while 'Ali bin Abu Talib and Suhail bin 'Amr were in front of him. The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said to 'Ali may Allah be pleased with him write 'BISMILLAAHIRAHMAANIRRAHIIMI, then Suhail bin 'Amr held his hand. Then he said: we don't know BISMILLAAHIRRAHMAANIRRAHIIMI, write what we can understand. He said: "Write BISMIKA ALLAHUMMA" then he wrote, "This is the agreement between Muhammad The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him and the people of Makkah", then Suhail bin 'Amr held his hand. Then said: "We would have wronged you if you were His messenger, write in our agreement what we know." He said: "This is an agreement between Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Al Muthallib, even though I am The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him" then he wrote, at that time there were thirty young men carrying weapons who attacked us, then the young men rebelled against us, then The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him prayed for misfortune upon them. Then Allah The Mighty and Majestic blinded their sight, we came to them and we captured them. Then The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: "Did you come under someone's agreement, or was there someone who guaranteed your safety?" they answered, no. Then they were allowed to walk. Then Allah The Mighty and Majestic revealed the verse, 'And it is He who restrained their hands from (destroying) you and (restrained) your hands from (destroying) them in the middle of the city of Mecca after Allah won you over them, and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.' Abu Abdurrahman said: Hammad bin Salamah said: in this hadith. From Thabit from Anas and Husain bin Waqid said: from Abdullah bin Al Mughaffal and this is what I think is true if Allah wills.
