حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا يَعْدِلُ الْجِهَادَ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُونَهُ فَرَدُّوا عَلَيْهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُونَهُ فَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ مَثَلُ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ الصَّائِمِ الَّذِي لَا يَفْتُرُ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ وَلَا صِيَامٍ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ الْمُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِوَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ الشِّفَاءِ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حُبْشِيٍّ وَأَبِي مُوسَى وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَأُمِّ مَالِكٍ الْبَهْزِيَّةِ وَأَنَسٍ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Narrated to us [Qutaibah bin Sa'id] said, narrated to us [Abu Awanah] from [Suhail bin Abu Shalih] from [his father] from [Abu Hurairah], he said: 'It was asked of the Messenger of Allah: O Messenger of Allah, what deed equals jihad?" He replied: "You are not capable of it." They repeated the question two or three times, and each time he replied: "You are not capable of it." On the third time, he said: "The likeness of a mujahid in the way of Allah is like one who stands in prayer and fasting, never stopping from prayer and fasting until the mujahid in the way of Allah returns from battle." He said: 'In this matter, there are also hadiths from Asy Syifa', Abdullah bin Hubsyi, Abu Musa, Abu Sa'id, Ummu Malik Al Bahziyah, and Anas. This hadith is hasan sahih. This hadith has been narrated from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, through many chains.'"
