Nabi mengajak Abu Thalib mengucapkan syahadat, namun dia enggan
Imam Bukhari : 4307حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَلَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبَا طَالِبٍ الْوَفَاةُ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ أَبُو جَهْلٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيْ عَمِّ قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ أُحَاجُّ لَكَ بِهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ يَا أَبَا طَالِبٍ أَتَرْغَبُ عَنْ مِلَّةِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ مَا لَمْ أُنْهَ عَنْكَ فَنَزَلَتْ{ مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا أُولِي قُرْبَى مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ }
"Ishak bin Ibrahim narrated to us, Abdur Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from Az-Zuhri, from Sa'id bin Al-Musayyab, from his father, who said: When Abu Talib was near death, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, visited him while Abu Jahl and Abdullah bin Abu Umayyah were present. The Prophet said, 'O my uncle, say, "There is no deity but Allah," so I may intercede for you with Allah.' Abu Jahl and Abdullah bin Abu Umayyah said, 'O Abu Talib, will you abandon the religion of Abdul Muttalib?' The Prophet said, 'I will keep seeking forgiveness for you as long as I am not forbidden.' Then, Allah revealed: 'It is not for the Prophet and those who believe to seek forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they are relatives, after it is clear that they are inhabitants of the Hellfire.' (Quran, At-Tawbah 9:113).
