Imam Bukhari : 3956حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَكَانَ عُمَرُ يُدْخِلُنِي مَعَ أَشْيَاخِ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِمَ تُدْخِلُ هَذَا الْفَتَى مَعَنَا وَلَنَا أَبْنَاءٌ مِثْلُهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ مِمَّنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ قَالَ فَدَعَاهُمْ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَدَعَانِي مَعَهُمْ قَالَ وَمَا رُئِيتُهُ دَعَانِي يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا لِيُرِيَهُمْ مِنِّي فَقَالَ مَا تَقُولُونَ فِي{ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا }حَتَّى خَتَمَ السُّورَةَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَحْمَدَ اللَّهَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرَهُ إِذَا نُصِرْنَا وَفُتِحَ عَلَيْنَا وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لَا نَدْرِي أَوْ لَمْ يَقُلْ بَعْضُهُمْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لِي يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَكَذَاكَ تَقُولُ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَمَا تَقُولُ قُلْتُ هُوَ أَجَلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْلَمَهُ اللَّهُ لَهُ{ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ }فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ فَذَاكَ عَلَامَةُ أَجَلِكَ{ فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا }قَالَ عُمَرُ مَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْهَا إِلَّا مَا تَعْلَمُ
"Narrated to us Abu Nu'man, narrated to us Abu Awanah from Abu Bishr from Said bin Jubair from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he said, Umar used to include me in the gatherings of the elders of Badr. Some of them said, 'Why do you include this young man with us when we have sons like him?' Umar said, 'He is someone you know.' He called them one day and included me with them. Ibn Abbas said, 'I don’t think he called me that day except to show them my knowledge.' Umar said, 'What do you say about, "When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering Allah’s religion in multitudes," until the end of the Surah?' Some of them said, 'We were commanded to praise Allah and seek His forgiveness when we are granted victory and conquest.' Others said, 'We don’t know,' or some did not say anything. Umar said to me, 'O Ibn Abbas, is that what you say?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Then what do you say?' I said, 'It is the sign of the Prophet’s peace be upon him death, which Allah informed him of. "When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest," meaning the conquest of Mecca, that is the sign of your death. "So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance."' Umar said, 'I do not know of it except what you know.'
