Narrated by [Abdullah bin Muhammad An Nufaili], [Utsman bin Abu Syaibah], [Hisyam bin 'Ammar], and [Sulaiman bin Abdurrahman Ad Dimasyqi], and perhaps some added a sentence over others. They said narrated by [Hatim bin Isma'il], narrated by [Ja'far bin Muhammad], from [his father], he said we met [Jabir bin Abdullah], then when we reached him, he asked about those people until he reached me. I said I am [Muhammad bin Ali bin Husain]. Then he reached his hand to my head and unbuttoned my upper shirt button, then unbuttoned my lowest shirt button, then placed his palm between my two nipples, and I was a young boy then. Then he said welcome, O my brother. Ask what you wish. Then I asked him while he was blind. Then the prayer time came, and he stood wearing a garment with its parts tucked into each other, every time he placed it on his shoulders, its ends returned to him due to its small size. Then he prayed with us while his shawl was to his side on a clothing hook. Then I said tell us about the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam! Then he gestured with his hand and counted nine. Then he said indeed, the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam stayed for nine years without performing Hajj, then it was announced among the people in the ninth year that the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam would perform Hajj. Then many people came to Madinah, all wanting to follow the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam and do as he did. Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam set out, and we set out with him until we reached Dzul Hulaifah, and [Asma` binti 'Umais] gave birth to [Muhammad bin Abu Bakr]. Then she sent a messenger to the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam asking what should I do? Then he said “Bathe and wrap your private parts with a cloth, and enter ihram.” Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam prayed in the mosque, then mounted the camel Al Qashwa`, until his camel was on Al Baida`….—[Jabir] said I looked as far as my eyes could see in front of me, of people riding and walking, and to his right like that, and to his left like that, and behind him like that. And the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam was among us, and the Qur’an descended upon him, and he knew its interpretation. Whatever he did, we did, then he recited talbiyah with the words of tawhid LABBAIKALLAAHUMMA LABBAIK, LABBAIKA LAA SYARIIKA LAKA LABBAIK INNAL HAMDA WAN NI'MATA WAL MULKA LAA SYARII KALAK. (O Allah, I answer Your call, I answer Your call, I answer Your call. You have no partner, I answer Your call, indeed all praise, blessings, and dominion are Yours, You have no partner). And the people recited talbiyah with this talbiyah they said, and the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam did not reject any of it, and the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam continued reciting his talbiyah. [Jabir] said we only intended to perform Hajj, we did not know what Umrah was, until we reached the Ka’bah with him. He touched the pillar and jogged three rounds and walked normally four rounds, then advanced to the Maqam Ibrahim and recited the verse “And take part of the Maqam Ibrahim as a place of prayer.” Then he made the Maqam Ibrahim between him and the Ka’bah. The narrator said [my father] said [Ibnu Nufail] and [Utsman] said …. —and I only know it from the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam—[Sulaiman] said and I only know it saying the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam in two raka’at recited Surat Al Ikhlas and Surat Al Kaafiruun. Then he returned to the Ka’bah and touched the pillar, then exited through the door to Shafa. Then when he approached Shafa, he recited “INNASH SHAFA WAL MARWATA MIN SYA'AAIRILLAAH, NABDAU BIMAA BADA-ALLAAHU BIHI.” (Indeed, Shafa and Marwa are among Allah’s symbols. We begin as Allah began). Then he started from Shafa, climbed it until he saw the Ka’bah, then said takbir and declared Allah’s oneness. He said “LAA ILAAHA ILALLAAHU WAHDAHU LAA SYARIIKA LAHU, LAHUL MULKU WA LAHUL HAMDU YUHYII WA YUMIITU WA HUWA 'ALAA KULLI SYAI IN QADIIR. LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAHU WAHDAH, ANJAZA WA'DAH WA NASHARA 'ABDAH, WA HAZAMAL AHZAABA WAHDAH.” (There is no god but Allah alone, no partner for Him, His is the dominion and His is the praise, He gives life and causes death, and He is capable of all things. There is no god but Allah alone, He fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the factions alone). Then he prayed between that and said it three times, then descended to Marwa until his feet touched it, he jogged in the valley’s middle, until he ascended, he walked until he reached Marwa, and on Marwa he did as he did on Shafa. Until at the end of the tawaf on Marwa, he said “If I had known before what I know now, I would not have brought a sacrificial animal and made it Umrah, so whoever among you has no sacrificial animal, let him perform tahallul and make it Umrah.” Then all the people performed tahallul and cut their hair, except the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam and those with sacrificial animals. Then [Suraqah bin Ju'syam] said O Messenger of Allah, is this for our year only or forever? Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam intertwined his fingers and said “Umrah has entered into Hajj like this.” He said it twice “No, but forever.” [Ali] radliallahu 'anhu came from Yemen bringing the Prophet’s shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam camels and found [Fathimah] radliallahu 'anha among those who had performed tahallul, wearing loose clothes and using kohl. Then [Ali] disapproved and said who ordered you to do this? [Fathimah] said my father. [Ali] in Iraq said I came to the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam to object about [Fathimah] regarding what she did and to seek a ruling from the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam about what she mentioned. Then I told him that I disapproved of what she did. Then [Fathimah] said indeed, my father ordered this to me. Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam said “She is truthful, she is truthful. What did you say when you intended to perform Hajj?” [Ali] said I said ALLAAHUMMA INNII UHILLU BIMAA AHALLA BIHI RASUULULLAH SHALLALLAHU 'ALAIHI WASALLAM. (O Allah, I recite talbiyah with the talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam). He said “Indeed, I brought a sacrificial animal, so do not perform tahallul.” And the group of sacrificial animals brought by [Ali] from Yemen and those brought by the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam from Madinah totaled one hundred. Then all the people performed tahallul and cut their hair except the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam and those with sacrificial animals. Then on the Day of Tarwiyah, as they headed to Mina, they recited talbiyah to perform Hajj. Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam mounted his camel and prayed Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Subuh at Mina, then stayed briefly until the sun rose, and ordered a tent made of hair to be set up for him. Then the tent was set up in Namirah, then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam proceeded, and the Quraysh had no doubt that the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam would perform wuquf at Masy’ar Haram in Muzdalifah as the Quraysh did in the Jahiliyah era. Then the Messenger of Allah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam passed until he reached Arafah and found the tent had been set up for him in Namirah. Then he stopped there until the sun declined, he ordered his camel Qashwa` to be prepared, then saddled, and he went to the valley’s center and delivered a sermon, saying “Indeed, your blood and property are sacred, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, and in this land of yours. Know that all matters of the Jahiliyah are abolished under my feet, the blood of the Jahiliyah is annulled, and the first blood I annul is our blood—[Utsman] said namely the blood of [Ibnu Rabi'ah]. While [Sulaiman] said the blood of [Rabi'ah bin Al Harits bin Abdul Muththalib]. Some said he was nursed among the Banu Sa’d, then killed by the Hudzail—and the riba of the Jahiliyah is abolished, the first riba I annul is our riba, namely the riba of [Abbas bin Abdul Muththalib], indeed all that riba is abolished. Fear Allah in dealing with women, indeed you take them with Allah’s trust, and make their private parts lawful with Allah’s word, indeed your right over them is that they not allow anyone you dislike into your homes, if they do so, strike them with a non-painful strike. They have rights over you to provide food and clothing in a good manner. And I have left you something that you will not go astray after if you hold fast to it, namely the Book of Allah (the Qur’an). You will be questioned about me, what is your opinion?” They answered we testify that you have conveyed and fulfilled the message and given advice. Then he said, raising his index finger to the sky and pointing to the people “O Allah, bear witness, O Allah, bear witness.” Then [Bilal] called the adhan and iqamah once. Then he performed Dhuhr prayer, then stood and performed Asr prayer, and did no prayer between them. Then he mounted Al Qashwa` until he reached the wuquf place and positioned the belly of his camel, Al Qashwa`, facing the rocks, and placed Hablul Musyah (where people gathered) before him, then faced the Qibla, and remained standing until the sun set and the yellow hue faded slightly until its disc vanished. Then he carried [Usamah] behind him, then proceeded and pulled the reins of his camel, Qashwa`, until its head touched the saddle’s base, and he said with his right hand “Be calm, O people, be calm, O people.” Every time his head neared the reins, he loosened them slightly, until he ascended and reached Muzdalifah, then he combined Maghrib and Isha prayers with one adhan and two iqamahs, [Utsman] said and he did not perform any sunnah prayer between them. Then their wording is the same, namely then he lay down until dawn broke, he performed Subuh prayer when the dawn was clear. [Sulaiman] said with one adhan and iqamah. Then their wording is the same, namely then he mounted Qashwa` until he stood at Masy’ar Al Haram, and climbed it. [Utsman] and [Sulaiman] said and faced the Qibla. Then he praised Allah, glorified, and recited tahlil. [Utsman] added and declared His oneness. He continued standing until the morning light spread widely, then he departed before sunrise, and carried [Al Fadhl bin Al Abbas], he was a man with beautiful hair, white and radiant. Then after the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam departed, he passed some women running, then [Al Fadhl] began looking at them, and the Prophet shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam placed his hand on [Al Fadhl]’s face, then [Al Fadhl] turned his face to the other side. Then the Prophet shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam moved his hand to the other side, and [Al Fadhl] turned his face to the other side while still looking, until he reached Muhassir, he hastened slightly, then followed the middle path that leads to the Great Jamrah until he reached the Jamrah with a tree, then he threw seven pebbles, saying takbir with each pebble throw like khadzaf (sling) pebbles. He threw from the valley’s center, then went to the slaughter place and slaughtered sixty-three camels with his hand, and ordered [Ali] to slaughter the rest, and he joined in slaughtering his camels, then ordered that from each camel, more than two people worked, then placed in a pot and cooked. They both ate some of the meat and drank some of the broth. [Sulaiman] said then he mounted his camel and returned to the Ka’bah and prayed Dhuhr in Makkah, then approached the Banu Abdul Muththalib while they were drawing Zamzam water, then he said “Drink, O Banu Abdul Muththalib, if people would not overpower you in providing water, indeed I would drink with you.” Then they gave him a bucket, and he drank some of it.
