Narrated to us [Ahmad bin Mani'] narrated to us [Isma'il bin 'Ulayyah] narrated to us [Ayyub] from [Nafi'] from [Nubaih bin Wahab] who said: 'Ibnu Ma'mar wanted to marry off his child, so he sent me to ask [Aban bin Uthman]. At that time, he was the amir of hajj in Makkah. I met him and conveyed: 'Your brother wants to marry off his child and wishes to witness it with you.' Aban said: 'I see him as a harsh Bedouin. A person in ihram should not marry or be married off.' Or something like that. Then he narrated from [Uthman] in marfu' form. A similar hadith is narrated from Abu Rafi' and Maimunah. Abu 'Isa said: 'The hadith of Uthman is hasan sahih and practiced by some companions of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, including Umar bin Khattab, Ali bin Abi Talib, and Ibnu Umar. This is also the opinion of some fuqaha from the Tabi'in, namely Malik, Syafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. They all do not permit a person in ihram to marry. If he marries, the marriage is invalid.'
