حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَسَنٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَبْيٍ فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ السَّبْيِ تَبْتَغِي إِذَا وَجَدَتْ صَبِيًّا فِي السَّبْيِ أَخَذَتْهُ فَأَلْصَقَتْهُ بِبَطْنِهَا وَأَرْضَعَتْهُ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةَ طَارِحَةً وَلَدَهَا فِي النَّارِ قُلْنَا لَا وَاللَّهِ وَهِيَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى أَنْ لَا تَطْرَحَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَلَّهُ أَرْحَمُ بِعِبَادِهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ بِوَلَدِهَا

Narrated to me Al Hasan bin Ali Al Hulwani and Muhammad bin Sahl At Tamimi - and this wording belongs to Hasan - narrated to us Ibnu Abu Maryam narrated to us Abu Ghassan narrated to me Zaid bin Aslam from his father from Umar bin Al Khaththab that he said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, once obtained some prisoners of war. Suddenly, a woman among them was searching for her baby among the prisoners. She took it, cradled it, and nursed it. Seeing this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked us: 'Do you think this woman would bear to throw her child into the fire?' We replied: 'By Allah, she would not bear to throw her child into the fire as long as she can prevent it.' Then the Messenger of Allah said: 'Indeed, Allah’s compassion toward His servants surpasses this woman’s compassion toward her child.'"
