Narrated to me [Ahmad bin Ishaq] narrated to us ['Amru bin 'Ashim] narrated to us [Hammam] narrated to us [Ishaq bin 'Abdullah] said, narrated to me ['Abdur Rahman bin Abu 'Amrah] that [Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him] narrated to him that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him). And narrated to me [Muhammad] narrated to us ['Abdullah bin Raja'] informed us [Hammam] from [Ishaq bin 'Abdullah] said, narrated to me ['Abdur Rahman bin Abu 'Amrah] that [Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him] narrated to him that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "There were three people from the Children of Israel: a leper, a bald man, and a blind man. Allah Almighty wished to test them, so He sent an angel to them. The angel came to the leper and said, 'What would you like most?' He replied, 'A good complexion and good skin, for people shun me.' The angel touched him, and his leprosy vanished, and he was given a good complexion and good skin. The angel asked, 'What wealth do you like most?' He said, 'Camels.' (Or he said, 'Cows'—the narrator was uncertain, as either the leper or the bald man said camels, and the other said cows.) So he was given a pregnant she-camel, and the angel said, 'May it be blessed for you.' Then the angel came to the bald man and said, 'What would you like most?' He replied, 'Good hair and to be rid of this, for people shun me.' The angel touched him, and his baldness vanished, and he was given good hair. The angel asked, 'What wealth do you like most?' He said, 'Cows.' So he was given a pregnant cow, and the angel said, 'May it be blessed for you.' Then the angel came to the blind man and said, 'What would you like most?' He replied, 'That Allah restores my sight so I can see people.' The angel touched him, and Allah restored his sight. The angel asked, 'What wealth do you like most?' He said, 'Sheep.' So he was given a pregnant sheep. The animals of the first two multiplied greatly, as did those of the third, so each had a valley of camels, a valley of cows, and a valley of sheep, respectively. Then the angel came to the former leper in his original form and appearance and said, 'I am a poor man whose provisions have run out on my journey. I have no means to continue today except by Allah and then by you. I ask you, by the One who gave you a good complexion, good skin, and wealth, for a camel to help me continue my journey.' The man said, 'I have many obligations.' The angel said, 'I seem to recognize you. Were you not a leper whom people shunned, poor, and then Allah gave you wealth?' He replied, 'I inherited this wealth from my forefathers.' The angel said, 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to your former state.' Then the angel came to the former bald man in his original form and said the same as he said to the first, and he responded similarly. The angel said, 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to your former state.' Then the angel came to the former blind man in his original form and said, 'I am a poor man and a traveler whose provisions have run out. I have no means to continue today except by Allah and then by you. I ask you, by the One who restored your sight, for a sheep to help me continue my journey.' The man said, 'I was blind, and Allah restored my sight, and I was poor, and He enriched me. Take what you wish, for by Allah, I will not withhold anything you take for Allah’s sake today.' The angel said, 'Keep your wealth. You have been tested, and Allah is pleased with you and displeased with your two companions.'
