حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ مَوْلَى الْعُمَرِيِّينَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قُدَامَةَ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجُمَحِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَخْتَلِفُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَهُوَ غُلَامٌ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ مُعَصْفَرَانِ قَالَ فَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ وَلِعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ فَعَضَّلَتْ بِالْمَلَكَيْنِ فَلَمْ يَدْرِيَا كَيْفَ يَكْتُبَانِهَا فَصَعِدَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَقَالَا يَا رَبَّنَا إِنَّ عَبْدَكَ قَدْ قَالَ مَقَالَةً لَا نَدْرِي كَيْفَ نَكْتُبُهَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا قَالَ عَبْدُهُ مَاذَا قَالَ عَبْدِي قَالَا يَا رَبِّ إِنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ وَعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُمَا اكْتُبَاهَا كَمَا قَالَ عَبْدِي حَتَّى يَلْقَانِي فَأَجْزِيَهُ بِهَا

Narrated by [Ibrahim bin Al Mundzir Al Hizami], he said: Narrated by [Shadaqah bin Basyir, freed slave of Al 'Umariyyin], he said: I heard [Qudamah bin Ibrahim Al Jumahi] narrate that he visited [Abdullah bin Umar bin Al Khattab] while still a boy wearing two saffron garments, he said: Narrated by [Abdullah bin Umar] that the Messenger of Allah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam told them: 'A servant of Allah said: Yaa Rabb, lakal hamdu kamaa yanbaghii lijalaali wajhika wali'adhiimi sulthaanik (O Lord, to You is praise as befits the majesty of Your face and the greatness of Your authority). The two angels were puzzled and did not know how to write it, so they ascended to heaven and said: O our Lord, Your servant has said a phrase we do not know how to record. Allah Almighty, knowing best what His servant said, asked: What did My servant say? They replied: O Lord, he said: Yaa Rabb, lakal hamdu kamaa yanbaghii lijalaali wajhika wali'adhiimi sulthaanik. Allah Almighty said to them: Write it as My servant said, until he meets Me, and I will reward him for it.'
