Imam Ahmad : 9318حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يُقْتَلَ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّهِيدَ فِي أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالطَّعِينُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْخَارُّ عَنْ دَابَّتِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَجْنُوبُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ الْمَجْنُوبُ صَاحِبُ الْجَنْبِ
Narrated to us [Muhammad bin 'Ubaid] said: Narrated to us [Muhammad] - namely Ibn Ishaq - from [Abu Malik bin Tsa`labah bin Abi Malik Al Qurazhi] from [Umar bin Al Hakam bin Tsauban] from [Abu Hurairah] said: I heard the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him say: "Who do you consider to be a martyr?" then the friends said: "(namely) those who fight in the way of Allah and are killed," he said: "Then the number of people who die as martyrs among my people are few?, the person who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, the person who dies because of ta'un in the way of Allah is a martyr, the person who drowns in the way of Allah is a martyr, the person who falls from his riding animal in the way of Allah is a martyr and the person who has a stomach ache.
