Having reported to me [Muhammad bin Jabalah Ar Rafiqiy] he said :Narrated to us [Al 'Ala bin Hilal] he said :Narrated to us ['Ubaidullah bin 'Amr] and from [Zaid bin Abu Unaisah] from [Hammad] from [Ibrahim] from [Alqamah bin Qais] from ['Abdullah] he said : "We used to not know what to say when we prayed. Then the Prophet of Allah sallallaahu'alaihiwasallam taught "Jawami'ul kalim' (short sentences full of meaning). He sallallaahu'alaihiwasallam said: 'Say, "At-tahiyyatu lillahi wash-shalawaatu wath-thayyibaatu, assalaamu 'alaika ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa Rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh, assalaamu 'alainaa wa 'ala 'ibadillaahish-shaalihiin, asyhadu allaa ilaah illallaah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa rasuuluh (respect, mercy and goodness are only for Allah. May safety, mercy and blessings remain with you, O Prophet. May salvation also be with the righteous servants of Allah. I testify that there is no Essence who has the right worshiped besides Allah, and Muhammad is his servant and His messenger)." Ubaidullah said : Zaid said : from Hammad from Ibrahim from Alqomah, he said : 'I have seen Ibn Mas'ud teach us these sentences, as he taught us the Qur'an.'
