حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ عَسْكَرٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِعَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ سَأَلَ اللَّهَ الشَّهَادَةَ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ صَادِقًا بَلَّغَهُ اللَّهُ مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَإِنْ مَاتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِقَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُرَيْحٍ وَهُوَ إِسْكَنْدَرَانِيٌّ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ

Narrated to us [Muhammad bin Sahl bin Askar Al Baghdadi] said, narrated to us [Al Qasim bin Katsir Al Mishri] said, narrated to us ['Abdurrahman bin Syuraih] that he heard [Sahl bin Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif] narrate from [his father] from [his grandfather] from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: 'Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom from his heart, Allah will grant him the reward of martyrs even if he dies on his bed.' Abu Isa said: 'The hadith of Sahl bin Hunaif is hasan gharib, we only know it from the hadith of 'Abdurrahman bin Syuraih. [Abdullah bin Shalih] narrated it from ['Abdurrahman bin Syuraih]. And 'Abdurrahman bin Syuraih, nicknamed Abu Syuraih, is from Alexandria. In this matter, there is also a hadith from Mu'adz bin Jabal.'
