Narrated to us [Qutaibah], narrated to us [Hammad bin Zaid] from [Amru bin Dinar] from [Jabir bin Abdullah] that Mu'adz bin Jabal once prayed Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then he returned to his people and led them in prayer. Abu 'Isa said, This is a hasan sahih hadith and practiced by our companions such as Syafi'i, Ahmad and Ishaq, they all said, if someone leads a group in obligatory prayer, even though he has prayed before, then the prayer of those who follow him is valid. They argue with the hadith of Abu Darda' about Mu'adz's prayer, it is a sahih hadith and narrated from Abu Darda' through more than one chain. Narrated that Abu Darda was asked, if someone enters the mosque and finds people praying Asr while he thinks they are praying Dhuhr then prays with them, he answered, his prayer is valid. The people of Kufah (Hanafi madhhab scholars. Pent.) hold that if a group follows someone praying Asr, while they think he is praying Dhuhr, then their prayer is not valid because of the difference in intention between Imam and follower.
