حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُهَاجِرٍ حَدَّثَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ نُبِّئْتُ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ الْحَبَشِيِّ قَالَبَعَثَ إِلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ فَأَتَيْتُهُ عَلَى بَرِيدٍ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ لَقَدْ شَقَقْنَا عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا سَلَّامٍ فِي مَرْكَبِكَ قَالَ أَجَلْ وَاللَّهِ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ الْمَشَقَّةَ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنْ حَدِيثٌ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهِ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْحَوْضِ فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ تُشَافِهَنِي بِهِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ حَدَّثَنِي ثَوْبَانُ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ حَوْضِي مَا بَيْنَ عَدَنَ إِلَى أَيْلَةَ أَشَدُّ بَيَاضًا مِنْ اللَّبَنِ وَأَحْلَى مِنْ الْعَسَلِ أَكَاوِيبُهُ كَعَدَدِ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ شَرْبَةً لَمْ يَظْمَأْ بَعْدَهَا أَبَدًا وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ يَرِدُهُ عَلَيَّ فُقَرَاءُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الدُّنْسُ ثِيَابًا وَالشُّعْثُ رُءُوسًا الَّذِينَ لَا يَنْكِحُونَ الْمُنَعَّمَاتِ وَلَا يُفْتَحُ لَهُمْ السُّدَدُقَالَ فَبَكَى عُمَرُ حَتَّى اخْضَلَّتْ لِحْيَتُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَكِنِّي قَدْ نَكَحْتُ الْمُنَعَّمَاتِ وَفُتِحَتْ لِي السُّدَدُ لَا جَرَمَ أَنِّي لَا أَغْسِلُ ثَوْبِي الَّذِي عَلَى جَسَدِي حَتَّى يَتَّسِخَ وَلَا أَدْهُنُ رَأْسِي حَتَّى يَشْعَثَ

Narrated by [Mahmud bin Khalid Ad Dimasyqi], he said: Narrated by [Marwan bin Muhammad], narrated by [Muhammad bin Muhajir], narrated by [Al 'Abbas bin Salim Ad Dimasyqi], informed by [Abu Salam Al Habasyi], he said: Umar bin Abdul Aziz summoned me, and I came to him by post. When I arrived, he said: 'We have burdened you with your journey, O Abu Salam.' I said: 'Indeed, by Allah, O Amirul Mukminin.' He said: 'By Allah, I did not intend to burden you, but a Hadith reached me that you narrate from Thawban, the freed slave of Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, about the basin, and I wished to hear it from you directly.' I said: Thawban, the freed slave of Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, narrated to me that Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: 'My basin spans from 'Adn to 'Ailah, whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, with goblets as numerous as the stars. Whoever drinks a sip from it will never thirst again. The first to reach me are the poor Muhajirin, in tattered clothes and disheveled hair, who did not marry the affluent nor have doors opened for them.'
