حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُهَلْ صَحِبَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ قَالَ مَا صَحِبَهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ وَلَكِنْ قَدْ افْتَقَدْنَاهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ فَقُلْنَا اغْتِيلَ أَوْ اسْتُطِيرَ مَا فُعِلَ بِهِ فَبِتْنَا بِشَرِّ لَيْلَةٍ بَاتَ بِهَا قَوْمٌ حَتَّى إِذَا أَصْبَحْنَا أَوْ كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ إِذَا نَحْنُ بِهِ يَجِيءُ مِنْ قِبَلِ حِرَاءَ قَالَ فَذَكَرُوا لَهُ الَّذِي كَانُوا فِيهِ فَقَالَ أَتَانِي دَاعِي الْجِنِّ فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَانْطَلَقَ فَأَرَانَا آثَارَهُمْ وَآثَارَ نِيرَانِهِمْ قَالَ الشَّعْبِيُّ وَسَأَلُوهُ الزَّادَ وَكَانُوا مِنْ جِنِّ الْجَزِيرَةِ فَقَالَ كُلُّ عَظْمٍ يُذْكَرُ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ يَقَعُ فِي أَيْدِيكُمْ أَوْفَرَ مَا كَانَ لَحْمًا وَكُلُّ بَعْرَةٍ أَوْ رَوْثَةٍ عَلَفٌ لِدَوَابِّكُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَا تَسْتَنْجُوا بِهِمَا فَإِنَّهُمَا زَادُ إِخْوَانِكُمْ الْجِنِّقَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Narrated to us [Ali bin Hujr] has told us [Ismail bin Ibrahim] from [Dawud] from [Ash Sya'bi] from [Alqamah] said: I asked [Ibnu Mas'ud may Allah be pleased with him] whether there was anyone among you who accompanied the Prophetpeace be upon him on the night he was visited by a jinn? He answered: None of us accompanied him but one night we lost him while he was in Mecca, we said he was kidnapped or flown by a jinn and treated him as he pleased. We spent the worst night that a people has gone through until in the morning or early morning, he came from the direction of Hira. Alqamah said: They told him about their condition and he said: "The jinn came to me and I went to them, I recited (the Qur'an) to them," he went and showed them their traces and the remains of their hearth. Ash-Sya'bi said: The jinn asked him for provisions and they were from the jinn of the Arabian Peninsula, he said: "Every bone on which the name of Allah is mentioned in your hands is more likely to bring meat (even if it appears to be bone) and every animal dung or food of your animals." After that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Therefore do not engage in istja` with both (bones and animal dung) because both are provisions of your brothers, the jinn." Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih.
