حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ عَمْرٌو حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُا وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقُلْنَا لَا نَكْنِيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَسْمِ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ و حَدَّثَنِي أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ بِسْطَامَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ ح و حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا

"Narrated to us Amru An Naqid and Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numair all from Sufyan. Amru said Narrated to us Sufyan bin Uyainah Narrated to us Ibnu Al Munkadir that he heard Jabir bin Abdullah say One time one of us had a child, and he named him Al Qasim. So we said We will not call you Abu Al Qasim, and we are not pleased with that name for your child. Then the man went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and reported it. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Name your child Abdurrahman." And narrated to me Umayyah bin Bistham Narrated to us Yazid namely Ibnu Zurai' Likewise narrated from another chain And narrated to us Ali bin Hujr Narrated to us Isma'il namely Ibnu Ulayyah all from Rauh bin Al Qasim from Muhammad bin Al Munkadir from Jabir like the Hadith of Ibnu Uyainah, but he did not mention 'and we are not pleased with that name for your child.'
