Narrated to us [Uthman bin Abu Syaibah al-'Absyi], "Narrated to us [Jarir] from [al-A'mash] from [Abu Shalih] from [Abu Sa'id], he said, 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah said, 'O Adam!' Adam responded, 'I answer Your call with pleasure, and all good is in Your hands.' Allah said: 'Bring out those sent to Hell.' Adam asked, 'How many are sent to Hell?' Allah said: 'From every thousand, nine hundred ninety-nine are taken.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'This happens when children turn gray: "(Pregnant women will miscarry, and people will be as if drunk, though they are not drunk, but Allah’s punishment is severe)" (Quran, Al-Hajj: 2). The words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) confused the Companions. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, who among us is that one from a thousand?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rejoice, for among the thousand are Gog and Magog, and from you is only one." Then he said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I hope you will be a quarter of the inhabitants of Paradise." We praised Allah and glorified Him. He said again: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I hope you will be a third of the inhabitants of Paradise." We praised Allah and glorified Him. Then he said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I hope you will be half of the inhabitants of Paradise. Your likeness among other nations is like a white hair on a black ox or a mark on a donkey’s leg." "Narrated to us [Abu Bakar bin Abu Syaibah], "Narrated to us [Waki']. (In another narration) "And Narrated to us [Abu Kuraib], "Narrated to us [Abu Muawiyah], both "Narrated from [al-A'mash] with this chain, but they said, "You are among mankind at that time like a white hair on a black ox or a black hair on a white ox." And they did not mention, "Like a mark on a donkey’s leg."'
