حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ الْعُقُوبَةِ مَا طَمِعَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحَدٌ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُ الْكَافِرُ مَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ الرَّحْمَةِ مَا قَنَطَ مِنْ الْجَنَّةِ أَحَدٌقَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

Narrated to us [Qutaibah], narrated to us [Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad] from [Al 'Ala bin Abdurrahman] from [his father] from [Abu Hurairah] that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If a believer knew the punishment with Allah, no one would hope for Paradise. And if a disbeliever knew the mercy with Allah, no one would despair of Paradise." Abu Isa said: this hadith is hasan. We know it only from the hadith of Al 'Ala from Abu Hurairah.
