حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ قَالَكَتَبَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ إِلَى الْحَجَّاجِ أَنْ لَا يُخَالِفَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ فِي الْحَجِّ فَجَاءَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ حِينَ زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ فَصَاحَ عِنْدَ سُرَادِقِ الْحَجَّاجِ فَخَرَجَ وَعَلَيْهِ مِلْحَفَةٌ مُعَصْفَرَةٌ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَالَ الرَّوَاحَ إِنْ كُنْتَ تُرِيدُ السُّنَّةَ قَالَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَنْظِرْنِي حَتَّى أُفِيضَ عَلَى رَأْسِي ثُمَّ أَخْرُجُ فَنَزَلَ حَتَّى خَرَجَ الْحَجَّاجُ فَسَارَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ أَبِي فَقُلْتُ إِنْ كُنْتَ تُرِيدُ السُّنَّةَ فَاقْصُرْ الْخُطْبَةَ وَعَجِّلْ الْوُقُوفَ فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ صَدَقَ

Narrated to us Abdullah bin Yusuf, informed us Malik from Ibn Syihab from Salim, said: Abdul Malik wrote to Al-Hajjaj not to differ with Ibn Umar regarding hajj. Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, came when I was with him on the Day of Arafah after the sun had declined, and he called out at Al-Hajjaj's tent. Al-Hajjaj came out wearing a yellow cloak and said: What is it, O Abu Abdurrahman? He said: Depart in the late afternoon if you wish to follow the Sunnah. He said: At this hour? He said: Yes. He said: Wait for me until I pour water on my head, then I will come out. He waited until Al-Hajjaj came out, and he walked between me and my father. I Sa'dto him: If you wish to follow the Sunnah, shorten the sermon and hasten the standing. He looked at Abdullah, and when Abdullah saw that, he said: He is correct.
