حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ حَاجِبِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ الْأَعْرَجِ قَالَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ رِدَاءَهُ فِي زَمْزَمَ فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ أَصُومُهُ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَ هِلَالَ الْمُحَرَّمِ فَاعْدُدْ ثُمَّ أَصْبِحْ مِنْ التَّاسِعِ صَائِمًا قَالَ فَقُلْتُ أَهَكَذَا كَانَ يَصُومُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ

Narrated to us [Hannad] and [Abu Kuraib] both said, narrated to us [Waki'] from [Hajib bin Umar] from [Al Hakam bin Al A'raj] he said, I met [Ibnu Abbas] when he was lying on his shawl near Zamzam, I asked, tell me about fasting on the day of 'Ashura', on which day do I start fasting? He answered, if you see the crescent of the month of Muharram then start counting it, then fast on the ninth day, he (Hakam) said, I said to him, is this how the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him fasted?, he answered, yes."
