حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أُنَيْسَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْحَمِيدِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سُئِلَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ { وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ } قَالَ قَرَأَ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ الْآيَةَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ خَلَقَ آدَمَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ ظَهْرَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ مِنْهُ ذُرِّيَّةً فَقَالَ خَلَقْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ لِلْجَنَّةِ وَبِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ يَعْمَلُونَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ ظَهْرَهُ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ مِنْهُ ذُرِّيَّةً فَقَالَ خَلَقْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ لِلنَّارِ وَبِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ يَعْمَلُونَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا خَلَقَ الْعَبْدَ لِلْجَنَّةِ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَى عَمَلٍ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فَيُدْخِلَهُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَإِذَا خَلَقَ الْعَبْدَ لِلنَّارِ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَى عَمَلٍ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَيُدْخِلَهُ بِهِ النَّارَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُصَفَّى حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ جُعْثُمٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَحَدِيثُ مَالِكٍ أَتَمُّ

Narrated to us by [Abdullah Al Qa'The Prophet] from [Malik] from [Zaid bin Unaisah] that [Abdul Hamid bin 'Abdurrahman bin Zaid Ibnul Khaththab] informed him from [Muslim bin Yasar Al Juhani] that [Umar Ibnul Khaththab] was once asked about this verse: (And remember when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants) -Qs. Al A'raf: 172- Al Qa'The Prophet read the verse, then Umar said, 'I also heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked about that verse, and he answered: 'Indeed, Allah created Adam, then Allah stroked his back with His right hand until descendants emerged from his back. Then Allah said: 'I created them for Paradise, and they will perform the deeds of the people of Paradise.' Then Allah stroked Adam's back again until descendants emerged from his back. After that, Allah said: 'I created them for Hell, and they will perform the deeds of the people of Hell.' A man asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, then what is the purpose of deeds?' The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Indeed, if Allah creates a servant for Paradise, He will make him perform the deeds of the people of Paradise until he dies with the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters him into Paradise. And if Allah creates a servant for Hell, He will make him perform the deeds of the people of Hell until he dies with the deeds of the people of Hell and enters him into Hell.' Narrated to us by [Muhammad Ibnul Mushaffa] he said, narrated to us by [Baqiyyah] he said narrated to me [Umar bin Ju'tsum Al Qurasyi] he said narrated to me [Zaid bin Abu Unaisah] from [Abdul Hamid bin 'Abdurrahman] from [Muslim bin Yasar] from [Nu'iam bin Rabi'ah] he said, 'I agree with [Umar Ibnul Khaththab] on this hadith, but Malik's hadith is more complete.'
