حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَمَّا اجْتَمَعَ الْقَوْمُ لِغَسْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ فِي الْبَيْتِ إِلَّا أَهْلُهُ عَمُّهُ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَقُثَمُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ وَصَالِحٌ مَوْلَاهُ فَلَمَّا اجْتَمَعُوا لِغَسْلِهِ نَادَى مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْبَابِ أَوْسُ بْنُ خَوْلِيِّ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ثُمَّ أَحَدُ بَنِي عَوْفِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ وَكَانَ بَدْرِيًّا عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا عَلِيُّ نَشَدْتُكَ اللَّهَ وَحَظَّنَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ ادْخُلْ فَدَخَلَ فَحَضَرَ غَسْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَمْ يَلِ مِنْ غَسْلِهِ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَأَسْنَدَهُ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصُهُ وَكَانَ الْعَبَّاسُ وَالْفَضْلُ وَقُثَمُ يُقَلِّبُونَهُ مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَكَانَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَصَالِحٌ مَوْلَاهُمَا يَصُبَّانِ الْمَاءَ وَجَعَلَ عَلِيٌّ يَغْسِلُهُ وَلَمْ يُرَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ شَيْءٌ مِمَّا يُرَى مِنْ الْمَيِّتِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي مَا أَطْيَبَكَ حَيًّا وَمَيِّتًا حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغُوا مِنْ غَسْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ يُغَسَّلُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ جَفَّفُوهُ ثُمَّ صُنِعَ بِهِ مَا يُصْنَعُ بِالْمَيِّتِ ثُمَّ أُدْرِجَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ ثَوْبَيْنِ أَبْيَضَيْنِ وَبُرْدِ حِبَرَةٍ ثُمَّ دَعَا الْعَبَّاسُ رَجُلَيْنِ فَقَالَ لِيَذْهَبْ أَحَدُكُمَا إِلَى أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ وَكَانَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ يَضْرَحُ لِأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَلْيَذْهَبْ الْآخَرُ إِلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَكَانَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَلْحَدُ لِأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ لَهُمَا حِينَ سَرَّحَهُمَا اللَّهُمَّ خِرْ لِرَسُولِكَ قَالَ فَذَهَبَا فَلَمْ يَجِدْ صَاحِبُ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ وَوَجَدَ صَاحِبُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَجَاءَ بِهِ فَلَحَدَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Narrated to us [Ya'qub] has told us [my father] from [Ibn Ishaq] has told me [Husain bin Abdullah] from [Ikrimah] from [Ibn Abbas], he said : When people gathered to wash (the body) of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, at that time there was only family in the house, (namely) his uncles, Al Abbas bin Abdul Muththalib, Ali bin Abi Talib, Al Fadl bin Abbas, Qutsam bin Al Abbas, Usamah bin Zaid bin Haritsah and Salih maulanya (his former slave). After they had gathered to bathe him, Aus bin Khauli Al Ansari, one of the Bani Auf bin Al Khazraj who took part in the Badr battle, called to Ali bin Abu Talib from behind the door, he said: "O Ali, I testify you to Allah and our position towards the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam." Ibn Abbas said : "Then Ali said: "Come in." So he went in and attended the bathing (body) of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, but he did not take part in the bathing at all. Ibn Abbas said : "Then he was propped against his chest and still wearing his robe. Al Abbas, Al Fadlal and Qutsam turned him over with Ali bin Abu Talib, while Usamah bin Zaid and Salih poured water on him, then Ali bathed him. Nothing was seen from the Messenger of Allah as is usually seen from a dead person." He (Ibn Abbas) said : "By my father and mother as a ransom, you are truly beautiful, both in life and after death." After finishing washing the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him with water and sidr leaves (lotus), they dried him, then did what is usually done to a dead person. Then they put on him three garments, (namely) two white garments and an outer garment (made of cotton and wool). Then Al Abbas called two men and said, "One of you goes to Abu Ubaidah bin Al Jarrah. Abu Ubaidah used to dig graves for the people of Makkah. And, another goes to Abu Talhah bin Sahl Al Ansari. Abu Talhah used to make lahad for the people of Medina." Ibn Abbas said : Then Al Abbas said to the two of them when they sent them off, "O Allah, give your Messenger a choice." Ibnu Abbas said : Then the two of them left, apparently the person who was tasked with meeting Abu Ubaidah did not find Abu Ubaidah, while the person who was tasked with meeting Abu Talhah was able to meet Abu Talhah. Then he came, then made a lahad for Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam.
