Narrated to us [Ahmad bin Mani'] and [Ya'qub bin Ibrahim Ad-Dauraqiy] they both said :Narrated to us [Husyaim] he said :Narrated to us [Abu Bisyr Ja'far bin Abu Wahsyiyyah bin Iyas] from [Sa'id bin Jubair] from [Ibn 'Abbas] about the words of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, "Do not raise your voice in your prayer and do not lower it." (Qs. Al Israa' (17): 1 10), he said : "This verse came down and Rasulullah sallallaahu'alaihi wasallam was still secretly preaching in Mecca. When he prayed with his companions, he sallallaahu'alaihi wasallam raised his voice, Ibn Mani' said, "He made his recitation of the Qur'an aloud. It was the polytheists who heard the voice of Rasulullah sallallaahu'alaihi wasallam (while reading the Qur'an) criticizing the Qur'an, the one who sent it down (Allah), and the one who brought it (angel Gabriel). Therefore Allah the Mighty and Majestic said to His prophet, "Do not raise your voice in your prayer" namely in his reading. -If- The polytheists hear this, then they denounce the Qur'an. "And do not turn it away" from your companions until they do not hear. "And look for a way between such circumstances." (Qs. Al Israa' (17): 110).
