Narrated to us [Abd bin Humaid], "Narrated to us [Abu Nu'aim], "Narrated to us [Ismail bin Muslim], "Narrated to us [Abu al-Mutawakkil] that [Ibn Abbas] "Narrated to him, that he spent the night with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one night. The Messenger of Allah woke up late at night, went out, looked at the sky, and recited this verse from Surah Ali Imran: 'Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those of understanding, who remember Allah standing, sitting, or lying down, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, saying, "Our Lord, You have not created this in vain. Glory be to You, so protect us from the punishment of the Fire"' (Quran, Ali Imran: 191-192). Then he returned home, used the miswak, performed ablution, and stood for prayer. After that, he lay down, then stood up again, went out, looked at the sky, and recited this verse again. Then he returned, used the miswak, performed ablution, and stood to perform prayer.
