Narrated to us [Ibnu Abu ‘Umar] he said: narrated to us [Sufyan bin ‘Uyaynah] from [Hisham bin ‘Urwah] from his father from [‘Aisyah] she said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) intended to bathe from janabah, he washed his hands before inserting them into the vessel, washed his private parts, performed wudu as for prayer, ran water through his hair, then poured three handfuls over his head." Abu Isa said: "This hadith is hasan sahih. Scholars prefer this for the janabah bath: perform wudu as for prayer, pour three handfuls over the head, then pour over the body and wash the feet. Scholars act upon it: if one in janabah immerses fully even without wudu, it suffices. This is the view of Syafi‘i, Ahmad and Ishaq."
