حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُنِيرٍ سَمِعَ هَارُونَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قُلْتُهَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ قَالَ نَعَمِ اعْتَكَفْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوْسَطَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ فَخَرَجْنَا صَبِيحَةَ عِشْرِينَ قَالَ فَخَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَبِيحَةَ عِشْرِينَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ وَإِنِّي نُسِّيتُهَا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ فِي وِتْرٍ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَنِّي أَسْجُدُ فِي مَاءٍ وَطِينٍ وَمَنْ كَانَ اعْتَكَفَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلْيَرْجِعْ فَرَجَعَ النَّاسُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ قَزَعَةً قَالَ فَجَاءَتْ سَحَابَةٌ فَمَطَرَتْ وَأُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَسَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الطِّينِ وَالْمَاءِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ أَثَرَ الطِّينِ فِي أَرْنَبَتِهِ وَجَبْهَتِهِ

Narrated to us 'Abdullah bin Munir, from Harun bin Isma'il, from 'Ali bin Al-Mubarak, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salamah bin 'Abdurrahman: I asked Abu Sa'id Al-Khudriy (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mention Lailatul Qadar?' He Sa'd 'Yes, we performed i'tikaf with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the middle ten nights of Ramadan. On the morning of the twentieth, he gave a sermon and Sa'd "I was shown Lailatul Qadar, but I was made to forget its exact time. Seek it in the last ten nights, on the odd nights. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud." Whoever performed i'tikaf with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) returned to the mosque. We saw no clouds in the sky, but then a cloud came, and it rained. The prayer was established, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prostrated in mud and water, and I saw traces of mud on his nose and forehead.'
