Narrated to us [Ibn Abi ‘Umar], he said: narrated to us [Sufyan bin ‘Uyaynah]: narrated to us [‘Abdullah bin Muhammad bin ‘Aqil]—he heard [Jabir]: [Sufyan] said: and narrated to us [Muhammad Ibn Al-Munkadir] from [Jabir]: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace be upon him, went out with me to an Ansari woman. She slaughtered a goat for him: he ate it. She brought fresh dates: he ate them. He performed wudu for Zuhr, prayed, left, then returned. She served the leftover goat: he ate it and prayed ‘Asr without renewing wudu." In this chapter there are narrations from Abu Bakr, Ibn ‘Abbas, Abu Hurayrah, Ibn Mas‘ud, Abu Rafi‘, Umm Al-Hakam, ‘Amr bin Umayyah, Umm ‘Amir, Suwayd bin An-Nu‘man, and Umm Salamah. Abu Isa said: "Abu Bakr’s hadith in this chapter is not sound in chain. It is narrated by Husayn bin Mishak from Ibn Sirin from Ibn ‘Abbas from Abu Bakr from the Prophet—but the sahih version is from Ibn ‘Abbas directly from the Prophet, as preserved by the huffaz. It is also narrated from Ibn Sirin from Ibn ‘Abbas from the Prophet, and by ‘Ata’ bin Yasar, ‘Ikrimah, Muhammad bin ‘Amr bin ‘Ata, ‘Ali bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas, and many others from Ibn ‘Abbas without mentioning Abu Bakr. This is the most authentic. Most scholars among the Companions, Tabi‘in, and later generations act upon it: wudu is not required after food touched by fire. This is the last of two matters from the Prophet, apparently abrogating the earlier hadith requiring wudu after food touched by fire."
