Narrated to us [Ya'qub] said: Narrated to us [my father] from [Ibn Ishaq] said: has narrated to me [Ma'bad bin Ka'ab bin Malik bin Abu Kaab bin Al Yaqin, brother of Bani Salamah] that his brother, ['Ubaidullah bin Kaab], he is the most knowledgeable person among the Ansar, told him that his father [Ka'ab bin Malik] and Ka'ab were among the people who took part in the Aqabah Incident and took allegiance with the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, saying: We went with our people to carry out the Hajj from among the polytheists, we prayed and understood, we were with Al Bara' bin Ma'rur, our figure and our leader. When we set out on our journey and we left Medina, Al Bara' said to us 'O people, I, by Allah, had a dream, by Allah, I do not know whether you will agree with me or not. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: we said to him, what is your dream? He answered, I dreamed that I would not leave the Kaaba by vehicle and that I would pray facing it. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then we said: By Allah, the news that has reached us is that our Prophet did not pray except in the direction of Sham, and we do not want to contradict him. Then he said 'I will pray towards him.' (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then we told him, 'We won't do it.' Therefore, when prayer time came, we faced Sham while he prayed facing the Kaaba until we were in Mecca. My brother said: we denounced what he did but he remained reluctant apart from holding firm to what he did. When we arrived at Makah, he said: 'O son of my brother, go to The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, and ask him what I did on my journey earlier.' By Allah, in my heart there is something that bothers me about what I have done, because I disagree with what you did. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then we went out and asked about The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, because we didn't know him and had never seen him before. Then he asked 'Do you two know about it? (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: we said, 'No.' He asked, do you know Al 'Abas bin Abdul Muttalib, his uncle. So we said, yes. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: we know Al 'Abbas because he once came to us as a trader. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: If the two of you have entered the mosque then he will be the one sitting with Al 'Abbas. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then we entered the mosque, it turned out that Al 'Abbas was sitting and The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him was also sitting with him, we said greetings and sat near them. The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said to Al 'Abbas, do you know these two men, O Abu Al Fadl? He answered, yes this is Al Barra' bin Ma'rur, the leader of his people and this is Ka'ab bin Malik. He says: By Allah, I will not forget the words of The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him that I felt. He answered, yes. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: Al Barra' bin Ma'rur said: O Nabiyullah, I was out on my journey and Allah showed me to Islam, then I dreamed that I didn't turn my back to the Kaaba and then I prayed facing it but my companions denied it in that matter. So I feel uneasy, what do you think, O Messenger of Allah? He said: you are already at the Qibla, if you are patient with it. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then Al Barra' went to the Qibla of The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him and prayed with us facing towards Sham. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: His family thought that he wasStill praying facing the Kaaba, until he died. But the fact is that is not the case, we know better than they do. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: we went out for Hajj, we made a promise to The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him in Aqabah in the middle of Tasriq Day, after we performed Hajj, that night was the night we made a promise to The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him. We were with Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Haram, Abu Jabir, one of our figures. We hid the person who was with us from the polytheists, it was our business, we spoke to him, O Abu Jabir you are one of our figures, a noble person among us, we really like you, it would be a shame if you had to become fuel for hell tomorrow. Then I invited him to Islam and I told him with the promise of The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, he also converted to Islam and took part in the Aqabah incident and he was a representative of the people. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then that night we slept together with our people in our vehicle, until after a third of the night we left our group fulfilling the promise of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, we passed through the gaps in a state of anxiety as birds walk, until we could gather on a road between two hills, near Aqabah. There were seventy of us, and two women, namely Nasibah bint Ka'ab, Umu 'Umarah, one of the women of the Bani Mazin bin Al Najar and Asma' bint 'Amr bin 'Adi bin Thabit, one of the women of the Bani Salamah, namely Umu Mani'. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: we gathered on that road, waiting for The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him came with his uncle Al 'Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, even though at that time he wasStill religious like his people. But he really liked to look into his brother's affairs and he strengthened it. When we were seated, Al 'Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib was the first to speak, he said 'O people of Al Khajraj, --(He said), And it was the Arabs who gave this Ansar Khazraj village the names Khazraj and Aus-indeed Muhammad is one of us whose origins you know, we defend him from our own people, from people who think like us, while he gets glory from his people and protection in his own country. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: We have heard what you said, speak, O Messenger of Allah, to yourself and your Lord what you like. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him spoke, he read and prayed to Allah The Mighty and Majestic, he advised Islam. He said: "I swear allegiance to you that you must defend me as you defend your women and your children. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then Al Barra' bin Ma'rur took his hand, then said: 'Yes, by the One who sent you with Al Haq, we will indeed prevent you from all harm as we prevent all harm that threatens our family. Give us oath, O Messenger of Allah, we are people who are skilled in war and skilled in handling weapons, we have mastered it for generations. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then someone interrupted the words when Al Barra' was talking to the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, namely Abu Al Haitsam bin At-Taihan, the representative of Bani Abdul Ashhal, he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, between us and the people there is a bond of agreement, should we break that bond of agreement, do you agree if we do that, then Allah wins you to go home to your people and you leave us?. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him smiled and said: "But guard against blood, guard against blood. Guard against destruction, guard against destruction. I am part of you and you are part of me, I will fight those you fight with, and I will make peace with those you make peace with." Then The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: "Bring forth from you twelve representatives, who will be from their people". They also brought out twelve representatives. Nine from Khazraj and three from Aus. Ma'bad bin Kaab Narrated to me in his hadith from his brother, Ka'ab bin Malik, saying: the one who first gave his hand to The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him was Al Barra' bin Ma'rur and was followed by his people. After we pledged allegiance to The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him, Satan shouted from the top of the hill of 'Aqabah with a very loud voice that I had never heard, 'O people who inhabit the hills and houses, don't you know that the lowly people who are being surrounded by apostates, they agreed to fighting you. 'Ali that is Ibn Ishaq asked 'O Muhammad, what did the enemy of Allah say? The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: "That is the devil of Azab who lives in 'Aqabah, and this is the child of the devil of Azab, listen, O enemy of Allah, I will concentrate myself to fight you!" Then the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him said: "Get into your vehicles." (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: Al Abbas bin Ubadah bin Nadllah said: to him, By the One who has sent you with Al Haq, if you wish, we will come to the people of Mina tomorrow with our swords. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: "I have not been ordered to do that." (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: then we went home, we slept until morning. Next, the Quraish officials met us, came to our stopping place and said: O people of Khazraj, news has reached us that you have come to our friend (The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him), you have invited him to leave our midst and you have pledged allegiance to him to fight us. By Allah, there is no Arab whom we would hate more if war broke out between us and him than you. (Ka'ab bin Malik may Allah be pleased with him) said: then the polytheists came from us, they swore to them in the name of Allah, that nothing happened, they were honest, because they did not know what happened to us. (Ka'ab bin Malik Radliyallhu'anhu) said: some of us looked at each other at his friend. Then the people got up and among them was Al Harith bin Hisyam bin Al Mughiroh Al Makhzumi carrying two new sandals. Then I said with one sentence as if I wanted to join them, in their words: what can you do do it O Abu Jabir, you are our leader, you only took two sandals like the sandals of the young man from Quraish. Then Al Harith heard it, he let go of both of them then threw them at me and said: By Allah, you will wear it. Then Abu Jabir said: may Allah protect you. For the sake of Allah, young man, return both sandals to him. Then I said: By Allah, I will not return it. He says: by Allah it is a peace treaty. By Allah, if the good words are true, then I will take them away. This is a hadith of Ka'ab bin Malik about the events of Aqabah and what he followed in them.
