حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ يَعْنِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُلَائِيَّ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ الثَّقَلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ الْآخَرِ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ حَبْلٌ مَمْدُودٌ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ وَعِتْرَتِي أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَإِنَّهُمَا لَنْ يَفْتَرِقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ

Narrated to us [Aswad bin 'Amir] said: has informed us [Abu Isma'il] - namely Isma'il bin Abu Ishaq Al Mula`i - from ['Athiyyah] from [Abu Sa'id] he said: The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: "I leave you two very heavy things, one of which is greater than the other: the Book of Allah, the rope that stretches from heaven to earth, and the descendants of the people of my temple, the two of them will not be separated until they arrive at my lake.
