Beliau meminta Abu Bakar ash-Shiddiq untuk menjadi imam shalat menggantikannya

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تُحَدِّثِينِي عَنْ مَرَضِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ بَلَى ثَقُلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَصَلَّى النَّاسُ فَقُلْنَا لَا هُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ضَعُوا لِي مَاءً فِي الْمِخْضَبِ فَفَعَلْنَا فَاغْتَسَلَ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَأُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَفَاقَ فَقَالَ أَصَلَّى النَّاسُ قُلْنَا لَا هُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ضَعُوا لِي مَاءً فِي الْمِخْضَبِ فَذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَغُشِيَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَتْ وَالنَّاسُ عُكُوفٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَنْتَظِرُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِأَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَجُلًا رَقِيقًا فَقَالَ يَا عُمَرُ صَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ تِلْكَ الْأَيَّامَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَدَ خِفَّةً فَخَرَجَ بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا الْعَبَّاسُ لِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ذَهَبَ لِيَتَأَخَّرَ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يَتَأَخَّرَ وَأَمَرَهُمَا فَأَجْلَسَاهُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فَجَعَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي قَائِمًا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا أَعْرِضُ عَلَيْكَ مَا حَدَّثَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ عَنْ مَرَضِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ هَاتِ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ فَمَا أَنْكَرَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ هَلْ سَمَّتْ لَكَ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي كَانَ مَعَ الْعَبَّاسِ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ هُوَ عَلِيٌّ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

Narrated to us [Abdurrahman bin Mahdi] Narrated to us [Za`idah] from [Musa bin Abu Aisyah] from [Ubaidullah bin Abdullah] he said, "I once met ['Aisyah] and said, 'Will you tell me about the illness of the Prophet sallallaahu 'Aliahi Wasallam?' When Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Aliahi Wasallam's body began to weaken due to illness and old age, he asked: "Have the people (companions) performed the prayers?" We answered, "Not yet, O Messenger of Allah, they are all waiting for you, sir." He said: "Then please prepare water in a vessel!" So we prepared it, he then took a shower and tried to get up unsteadily and finally fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness he asked again: "Have the friends prayed?" We answered, "Not yet, O Messenger of Allah, they are all waiting for you, sir." He then said: "Then please prepare water for me in a vessel!" then he got up staggeringly and finally fell unconscious again. 'Aisyah said, "At that time the friends were gathered in the mosque waiting for Rasulullah sallallaahu 'Aliahi Wasallam to perform the 'Isha' prayer. Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam then sent someone for Abu Bakr to lead the friends. And Abu Bakr was a man whose heart was very soft (crying easily), so he said, "O Umar, pray with the people." But Umar answered instead, "You have more right "So for several days Abu Bakr finally became the imam for the companions. Then after Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Aliahi Wasallam's illness improved somewhat, he came out for midday prayers flanked by two men, one of whom was Al 'Abbas. When Abu Bakr saw him, he intended to withdraw from the place of worship but Rasulullah peace and blessings be upon him motioned to him to stay where he was, and he ordered the two men who were flanking him to sit in his place. next to Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr prayed standing and he prayed sitting." Ubaidullah said, "Then I went to [Ibn 'Abbas] and said to him, "Shall I explain to you what 'Aisha has conveyed to me regarding the illness of the Prophet sallallaahu 'Aliahi Wasallam?" He answered, "Expose it!" So I told him about the incident and he didn't deny anything about it apart from asking, "Did 'Aisyah also tell you who the person who was with Al 'Abbas when he was flanking the Prophet sallallaahu 'Aliahi Wasallam?" I answered, "No." Ibn Abbas then said, "He is Ali bin Abu Talib.
