Imam Ahmad : 1521

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مُصْعَبُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَشَدُّ بَلَاءً قَالَ فَقَالَ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ ثُمَّ الْأَمْثَلُ فَالْأَمْثَلُ يُبْتَلَى الرَّجُلُ عَلَى حَسَبِ دِينِهِ فَإِنْ كَانَ دِينُهُ صُلْبًا اشْتَدَّ بَلَاؤُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي دِينِهِ رِقَّةٌ ابْتُلِيَ عَلَى حَسَبِ دِينِهِ فَمَا يَبْرَحُ الْبَلَاءُ بِالْعَبْدِ حَتَّى يَتْرُكَهُ يَمْشِي عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مَا عَلَيْهِ خَطِيئَةٌ

Narrated to us ['Affan] has told us [Hammad bin Zaid] has told us ['Ashim bin Bahdalah] has told me [Mush'ab bin Sa'd] from [his father] said : I asked the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam: "Which human being has the hardest trials?" He answered; "The Prophets, then people like them and people like them. A person is tested according to the level of his religion, if his religion is strong then the test will be tough. If his religion is weak then he is tested according to the level of his religion. The test does not stop for a servant until Allah allows him to walk on earth without making mistakes.
