Imam Ahmad : 356حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ صُبَيِّ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ نَصْرَانِيًّا تَغْلِبِيًّا فَأَسْلَمَ فَسَأَلَ أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُجَاهِدَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَحَجَجْتَ قَالَ لَا فَقِيلَ لَهُ حُجَّ وَاعْتَمِرْ ثُمَّ جَاهِدْ فَأَهَلَّ بِهِمَا جَمِيعًا فَوَافَقَ زَيْدَ بْنَ صُوحَانَ وَسَلْمَانَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ فَقَالَا هُوَ أَضَلُّ مِنْ نَاقَتِهِ أَوْ مَا هُوَ بِأَهْدَى مِنْ جَمَلِهِ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِقَوْلِهِمَا فَقَالَ هُدِيتَ لِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ لِسُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Narrated to us ['Affan] Narrated to us [Syu'bah] from [Al Hakam] from [Abu Wa`il] from [Shubay Bin Ma'bad] that previously he was a Christian from Taghlib, then he converted to Islam, then asked; "What practice is more important?" So answered; "Jihad in the way of Allah." Then he was about to leave for jihad, and it was said to him; "Have you ever performed the Hajj?" He answered; "Not yet," was then said to him; "Make Hajj and Umrah first then do jihad." Then he intended to perform Hajj and Umrah simultaneously, then met Zaid Bin Shuhan and Salman Bin Rabi'ah, so both of them said; "He is more astray than his camel," or; "He is no more guided than his camel." So he went to Umar and told what they both said, so [Umar] said; "You have received guidance regarding the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam -or- have received the sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam.
