حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ أَنَّ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ اذْهَبْ يَا رَافِعُ لِبَوَّابِهِ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُلْ لَهُ لَئِنْ كَانَ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ فَرِحَ بِمَا أُوتِيَ وَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يُحْمَدَ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلْ مُعَذَّبًا لَنُعَذَّبَنَّ أَجْمَعُونَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ مَا لَكُمْ وَلِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ إِنَّمَا أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ فِي أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ثُمَّ تَلَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ { وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ } وَتَلَا { لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوْا وَيُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا } قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ سَأَلَهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَكَتَمُوهُ وَأَخْبَرُوهُ بِغَيْرِهِ فَخَرَجُوا وَقَدْ أَرَوْهُ أَنْ قَدْ أَخْبَرُوهُ بِمَا قَدْ سَأَلَهُمْ عَنْهُ فَاسْتُحْمِدُوا بِذَلِكَ إِلَيْهِ وَفَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا مِنْ كِتْمَانِهِمْ مَا سَأَلَهُمْ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ

Narrated to us [Al Hasan bin Muhammad Az Za'farani] has told us [Al Hajjaj bin Muhammad] he said : [Ibn Juraij] said : has informed me [Ibnu Abu Awalkah] that [Humaid bin Abdurrahman bin 'Auf] has informed him that Marwan bin al Hakim said : "O Rafi', go to [Ibnu Abbas] and tell him, if there is a person who is happy with what he has and likes to be praised for deeds he has not done, he will be tortured, of course we will all be tortured (too)." Ibn Abbas answered; "What is it you guys?, verily this verse was revealed to the people of the book, then he read: And (remember), when Allah took promises from those who had been given the book (namely): "You must explain the contents of the book to people, and do not hide it, QS Ali Imran 187, he read: "Never think that people are happy with what they have done and they like to be praised for deeds they have not done." QS Ali Imran: 187-188, Ibn Abbas said : "The Prophet peace be upon him once asked them (the people of the book) something, they hid it and told other things, after that they came out and showed the answers to all the questions asked of them, they expected praise for it, they felt happy about something they had hidden that the Prophet peace be upon him asked." Abu Isa said that this hadith is hasan gharib authentic.
