Narrated to us [Qutaibah] said, narrated to us [Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad] from [Suhail bin Abu Shalih] from [his father] from [Abu Hurairah] that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Do not initiate greetings of peace to the Jews and Christians, and if you meet one of them on the road, force them to the edge of the path.' He said: 'In this matter, there are also hadiths from Ibnu Umar, Anas, and Abu Bashrah Al Ghifari, a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.' Abu Isa said: 'This hadith is hasan sahih, and the meaning of this hadith is not to initiate greetings of peace to the Jews and Christians. Some scholars say: The prohibition is because this is part of honoring them, whereas Muslims are commanded to humble them. This also applies when meeting one of them on the road it is recommended not to give way to them, as that is part of exalting them."'"
