Narrated to us [Al Hasan bin Ali Al Khallal], narrated to us [Yahya bin Adam] from [Ibnu Al Mubarak] from [Yunus bin Yazid] from [Az Zuhri] from [Sa'id bin Al Musayyib] from [Shafwan bin 'Umayyah], he said, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me a share from the spoils of Hunain, even though at that time he was the person I hated the most, but he kept giving me until he became the person I loved the most. Abu 'Isa said, narrated to us Al Hasan bin Ali with this hadith or similar in meaning in Al Mudzakarah. (Narrator) said, in this chapter (there is also narration -pent) from Abu Sa'id. Abu 'Isa said, the hadith of Sufwan has been narrated by [Ma'mar] and others from [Az Zuhri] from [Sa'id bin Al Musayyib], that [Shafwan] said, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me a share …" it seems this narration is more sahih. The scholars differ on this issue, most scholars hold that Al Muallafatu qulubuhum today are not entitled to zakat/gifts, because this hadith is specific to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, namely when he persuaded them to enter Islam with wealth until they entered Islam. This is the opinion of Sufyan Ats Tsauri and the people of Kufah and the opinion of Ahmad and Ishaq. While Imam Syafi'i holds, if now there are muallaf in the same condition as muallaf during the time of the Prophet then the imam persuades them to enter Islam with wealth then it is permissible.
