Umat Islam mengalami kesedihan yang amat mendalam hingga Umar bin Khattab tidak percaya bahwa beliau wafat

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَعْمَرٌ وَيُونُسُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ قَالَتْأَقْبَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى فَرَسِهِ مِنْ مَسْكَنِهِ بِالسُّنْحِ حَتَّى نَزَلَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْ النَّاسَ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَتَيَمَّمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مُسَجًّى بِبُرْدِ حِبَرَةٍ فَكَشَفَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ ثُمَّ أَكَبَّ عَلَيْهِ فَقَبَّلَهُ ثُمَّ بَكَى فَقَالَ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ لَا يَجْمَعُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ مَوْتَتَيْنِ أَمَّا الْمَوْتَةُ الَّتِي كُتِبَتْ عَلَيْكَ فَقَدْ مُتَّهَاقَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ فَأَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ خَرَجَ وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ اجْلِسْ فَأَبَى فَقَالَ اجْلِسْ فَأَبَى فَتَشَهَّدَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَمَالَ إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ وَتَرَكُوا عُمَرَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ يَعْبُدُ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَمَنْ كَانَ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى{ وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ إِلَى الشَّاكِرِينَ }وَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنَّ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَنْزَلَهَا حَتَّى تَلَاهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْهُ النَّاسُ فَمَا يُسْمَعُ بَشَرٌ إِلَّا يَتْلُوهَا

Bishr bin Muhammad narrated to us, Abdullah informed us, Ma'mar and Yunus Sa'd Az-Zuhri informed me, Abu Salamah informed me that Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, told him: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came on his horse from his residence in As-Sunh until he dismounted and entered the mosque without speaking to anyone until he reached Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). He went straight to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, who was covered with a striped cloak, uncovered his face, leaned over him, kissed him, and wept, saying, 'May my father be ransomed for you, O Prophet of Allah. Allah will not combine two deaths upon you. As for the death decreed for you, you have died.' Abu Salamah Sa'd Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) informed me that Abu Bakr came out while Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was addressing the people. He Sa'd 'Sit down,' but Umar refused. He Sa'dagain, 'Sit down,' but Umar refused. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) then gave a testimony, and the people turned to him, leaving Umar. He Sa'd 'To proceed, whoever among you worshipped Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him, Muhammad has died. Whoever worships Allah, Allah is Alive and does not die. Allah Almighty Sa'd "Muhammad is no more than a messenger; messengers before him have passed away..." (Qur'an, Ali Imran 165). By Allah, it was as if the people did not know Allah had revealed this until Abu Bakr recited it. The people took it from him, and no one was heard but reciting it.'
