Narrated to us 'Ubaid bin Isma'il, narrated to us Abu Usamah, from Hisham, from his father, from 'Aisyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal fell ill with fever. When Abu Bakr was overcome with fever, he would recite: 'Every person wakes in the morning with his family, yet death is closer than the strap of his sandal.' And when Bilal recovered from his fever, he would raise his voice, reciting: 'Would that I knew if I could spend a night in a valley surrounded by idhkhir and jalil plants. Will I ever reach the waters of Majannah? Will the hills of Shamah and Tufail appear to me?' He Sa'd 'O Allah, curse Shaybah bin Rabi'ah, 'Utbah bin Rabi'ah, and Umayyah bin Khalaf, as they expelled us from our land to a land of pestilence.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) Sa'd 'O Allah, make us love Medina as we love Mecca or even more. O Allah, bless our measures of sa' and mud, make it healthy for us, and transfer its fever to Juhfah.' She Sa'd 'We arrived in Medina when it was the most plague-ridden land of Allah.' She added, 'The valley of Buthan flowed with stagnant, disease-carrying water.'
