Narrated to us [Qutaibah], narrated to us [Al Laits] from [Abu Syuja' Sa'id bin Yazid] from [Khalid bin Abu Imran] from [Hanasy Ash Shan'ani] from [Fadhalah bin Ubaid], he said: I once bought a necklace during the Battle of Khaibar for twelve dinars, consisting of gold and gems, then I separated them and found it to be more than twelve dinars. I mentioned this to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: Do not sell it until it is separated." Narrated to us [Qutaibah], narrated to us [Ibnul Mubarak] from [Abu Syuja' Sa'id bin Yazid] with this chain similarly. Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih and is acted upon according to some scholars from among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and others they held that it is not permissible to sell a sword mixed with gold or a necklace mixed with silver or the like with dirhams until it is distinguished and separated, this is the opinion of Ibnul Mubarak, Asy Syafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. However, some scholars from among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and others permitted selling it."
