حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَحَانَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَجَاءَ بِلَالٌ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فَقَالَ حُبِسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَؤُمُّ النَّاسَ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ فَأَقَامَ بِلَالٌ الصَّلَاةَ فَتَقَدَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَصَلَّى فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي فِي الصُّفُوفِ يَشُقُّهَا شَقًّا حَتَّى قَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ فَأَخَذَ النَّاسُ بِالتَّصْفِيحِ قَالَ سَهْلٌ هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا التَّصْفِيحُ هُوَ التَّصْفِيقُ وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرُوا الْتَفَتَ فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصَّفِّ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ مَكَانَكَ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ الْقَهْقَرَى وَرَاءَهُ وَتَقَدَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى

Abdullah bin Maslamah narrated to us, Abdul Aziz bin Abu Hazim narrated to us from his father, from Sahal bin Sa'ad (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: One day, the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him went out to resolve a dispute among the Banu 'Amru bin 'Auf bin Al-Harith, and the time for prayer arrived. Bilal came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them) and Sa'd 'The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him was indisposed; will you lead the people in prayer?' He replied, 'Yes, if you wish.' So Bilal established the prayer, and Abu Bakr stepped forward to lead. Then the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him arrived, walking through the rows, parting them until he stood in the first row. The people signaled by clapping their hands. Sahal Sa'd 'Do you know the difference between At-Tashfiih and At-Tashfiiq?' At that time, Abu Bakr did not react and continued his prayer. When the clapping grew louder, Abu Bakr turned and saw the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him in the row. The Prophet signaled to him to remain in his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands, praised Allah, then stepped back. The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him stepped forward and continued leading the prayer.
