Imam Bukhari : 3577حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ أَنَّ سَالِمًا حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ مَا سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَلِشَيْءٍ قَطُّ يَقُولُ إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّهُ كَذَا إِلَّا كَانَ كَمَا يَظُنُّ بَيْنَمَا عُمَرُ جَالِسٌ إِذْ مَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ جَمِيلٌ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ أَخْطَأَ ظَنِّي أَوْ إِنَّ هَذَا عَلَى دِينِهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَوْ لَقَدْ كَانَ كَاهِنَهُمْ عَلَيَّ الرَّجُلَ فَدُعِيَ لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ اسْتُقْبِلَ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ قَالَ فَإِنِّي أَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا أَخْبَرْتَنِي قَالَ كُنْتُ كَاهِنَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَالَ فَمَا أَعْجَبُ مَا جَاءَتْكَ بِهِ جِنِّيَّتُكَ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا يَوْمًا فِي السُّوقِ جَاءَتْنِي أَعْرِفُ فِيهَا الْفَزَعَ فَقَالَتْ أَلَمْ تَرَ الْجِنَّ وَإِبْلَاسَهَا وَيَأْسَهَا مِنْ بَعْدِ إِنْكَاسِهَا وَلُحُوقَهَا بِالْقِلَاصِ وَأَحْلَاسِهَا قَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقَ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ عِنْدَ آلِهَتِهِمْ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ بِعِجْلٍ فَذَبَحَهُ فَصَرَخَ بِهِ صَارِخٌ لَمْ أَسْمَعْ صَارِخًا قَطُّ أَشَدَّ صَوْتًا مِنْهُ يَقُولُ يَا جَلِيحْ أَمْرٌ نَجِيحْ رَجُلٌ فَصِيحْ يَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَوَثَبَ الْقَوْمُ قُلْتُ لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّى أَعْلَمَ مَا وَرَاءَ هَذَا ثُمَّ نَادَى يَا جَلِيحْ أَمْرٌ نَجِيحْ رَجُلٌ فَصِيحْ يَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَقُمْتُ فَمَا نَشِبْنَا أَنْ قِيلَ هَذَا نَبِيٌّ
"Narrated to us by [Yahya bin Sulaiman] who said, [Ibnu Wahb] narrated to me, saying, ['Umar] narrated to me that [Salim] told him from [Abdullah bin 'Umar] may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: I never heard ['Umar] say about anything, 'I think it is so,' except that it turned out as he thought. Once, while 'Umar was sitting, a handsome man passed by. 'Umar said, 'My guess is wrong,' or 'This man is still following his religion from the pre-Islamic era,' or 'He was their soothsayer. Bring that man to me.' So the man was called to 'Umar, and he told him his suspicion, saying, 'I have never seen a day like today where a Muslim is confronted with such talk.' 'Umar said, 'I am certain of my suspicion about you unless you tell me otherwise.' The man said, 'I was indeed their soothsayer in the pre-Islamic era.' 'Umar asked, 'What is the most astonishing thing your jinn brought to you?' The man replied, 'One day while I was in the market, my jinn came to me, and I knew it was in a state of fear. It said, "Have you not seen the jinn in confusion and despair after turning away from meeting the young camels with their saddlebags?"' 'Umar said, 'The jinn spoke the truth. While I was sleeping near their idols, a man came with a calf and slaughtered it. Then someone shouted in a voice louder than any I had ever heard, saying, 'O Jalih, a successful matter, an eloquent man says, "There is no god but Allah."' The people jumped in shock. I said, 'I will not leave until I know what is behind this.' Then the man shouted again, 'O Jalih, a successful matter, an eloquent man says, "There is no god but Allah."' So I stood up, and soon after, it was said, 'This is a Prophet.'
