Imam Ahmad : 2158حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْجِنِّ وَلَا رَآهُمْ انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَامِدِينَ إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ وَقَدْ حِيلَ بَيْنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ الشُّهُبُ قَالَ فَرَجَعَتْ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ فَقَالُوا مَا لَكُمْ قَالُوا حِيلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْنَا الشُّهُبُ قَالَ فَقَالُوا مَا حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ إِلَّا شَيْءٌ حَدَثَ فَاضْرِبُوا مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا فَانْظُرُوا مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقُوا يَضْرِبُونَ مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا يَبْتَغُونَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ قَالَ فَانْصَرَفَ النَّفَرُ الَّذِينَ تَوَجَّهُوا نَحْوَ تِهَامَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ بِنَخْلَةَ عَامِدًا إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ اسْتَمَعُوا لَهُ وَقَالُوا هَذَا وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ قَالَ فَهُنَالِكَ حِينَ رَجَعُوا إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ فَقَالُوا يَا قَوْمَنَا { إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ } الْآيَةَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ { قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ } وَإِنَّمَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَوْلُ الْجِنِّ
Narrated to us [Affan] has told us [Abu 'Awanah] has told us [Abu Bisyr] from [Sa'id bin Jubair] from [Ibn Abbas], he said : The Prophet peace be upon him never read (the Qur'an) to the jinn nor did he see them. Rasulullah peace be upon him and a number of his companions went to the 'Ukazh market, and at that time the devils and the news from heaven were blocked, and they were pelted with fireballs. Ibn Abbas said again; So the demons returned to their people and asked; "What's wrong with you guys?" they answered; "There was a barrier between us and the sky news and then we were pelted with fireballs." Ibn Abbas said again; They said : "There is nothing that stands between you and the news of the sky except because something happens. Comb the eastern hemisphere of the earth and the western hemisphere. Look for anything that stands between you and the news of the sky." Ibn Abbas said : So they searched the eastern and western hemispheres of the earth to find a barrier that stood between them and the heavenly news. He said again; Then a group of jinn who were heading towards Tihamah turned back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He was at that time in Nakhlah on his way to the market of Ukazh. At that time he and his companions were performing the morning prayer. He said again; When the group of jinn heard the Qur`an, they paid attention to it and said: "By Allaah, this is what is a barrier between you and the heavenly news." Ibn Abbas said: "From there when they returned to their people they said: "O our people! (Indeed, we have heard a wondrous Qur`an, (which) guides to the right path, and we believe in it.)" Then Allaah revealed to His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): (Say (O Muhammad): 'It has been revealed to you that)'" so what was revealed to him was (among other things) from the statements of the jinn.
