Jumlah malaikat penjaga neraka jahannam ada sembilan atau sepuluh
Imam Tirmidzi : 3250حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَقَالَ نَاسٌ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ لِأُنَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ يَعْلَمُ نَبِيُّكُمْ كَمْ عَدَدُ خَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ قَالُوا لَا نَدْرِي حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ نَبِيَّنَا فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ غُلِبَ أَصْحَابُكَ الْيَوْمَ قَالَ وَبِمَا غُلِبُوا قَالَ سَأَلَهُمْ يَهُودُ هَلْ يَعْلَمُ نَبِيُّكُمْ كَمْ عَدَدُ خَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ قَالَ فَمَا قَالُوا قَالَ قَالُوا لَا نَدْرِي حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ نَبِيَّنَا قَالَ أَفَغُلِبَ قَوْمٌ سُئِلُوا عَمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ فَقَالُوا لَا نَعْلَمُ حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ نَبِيَّنَا لَكِنَّهُمْ قَدْ سَأَلُوا نَبِيَّهُمْ فَقَالُوا أَرِنَا اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً عَلَيَّ بِأَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي سَائِلُهُمْ عَنْ تُرْبَةِ الْجَنَّةِ وَهِيَ الدَّرْمَكُ فَلَمَّا جَاءُوا قَالُوا يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ كَمْ عَدَدُ خَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ قَالَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا فِي مَرَّةٍ عَشَرَةٌ وَفِي مَرَّةٍ تِسْعَةٌ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ لَهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا تُرْبَةُ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ فَسَكَتُوا هُنَيْهَةً ثُمَّ قَالُوا خْبْزَةٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْخُبْزُ مِنْ الدَّرْمَكِقَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مُجَالِدٍ
Narrated to us [Ibnu Abu Umar], narrated to us [Sufyan] from [Mujalid] from [Asy Sya'bi] from [Jabir bin Abdullah], he said: the Jews said to some companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: does your prophet know how many guardians of Jahannam Hell? They said: we do not know until we ask our Prophet. Then someone came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Muhammad, today your companions have lost. He asked: How did they lose." He said: the Jews asked them: does your prophet know how many guardians of Jahannam Hell? The man said: then they could not speak. The man said: they said: we do not know until we ask our Prophet. He said: "Is a people defeated because they are asked about something they do not know then they say: we do not know until ask our Prophet?, But they had asked their prophet, 'Show us Allah outright.' I will face the enemies of Allah. Indeed I ask them about the soil of Paradise, namely white flour pure." Then when they came then they said: show Allah clearly to us, O Abu Al Qasim, how many guardians of Jahannam Hell? He said: "Such and such." Once he mentioned ten and once nine. They said: yes. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to them: "What is the soil of Paradise?" then they were silent a moment then said: bread, O Abu Al Qasim. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Bread from pure white wheat." Abu Isa said: this hadith is gharib. Indeed we know it from this side from the hadith of Mujalid."
