حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَأَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَأَى حُلَّةَ سِيَرَاءَ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ تُبَاعُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ اشْتَرَيْتَ هَذِهِ فَلَبِسْتَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَلِلْوَفْدِ إِذَا قَدِمُوا عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهَا حُلَلٌ فَأَعْطَى عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ مِنْهَا حُلَّةً فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَسَوْتَنِيهَا وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِي حُلَّةِ عُطَارِدَ مَا قُلْتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَكْسُكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا فَكَسَاهَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ أَخًا لَهُ مُشْرِكًا بِمَكَّةَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ بِهَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ قَالَ حُلَّةُ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ وَقَالَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ وَقَالَ تَبِيعُهَا وَتُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ

Narrated to us[Abdullah bin Maslamah], from [Malik] from [Nafi'] from [Abdullah bin Umar], who said: "'[Umar Ibn Al-Khattab] saw a silk-embroidered cloth for sale in front of the mosque door. '[Umar] said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if only you would buy this cloth so you could wear it on Friday and when delegations come to you.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Only those who wear it will have no share in the Hereafter.' After that, pieces of silk cloth were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he gave a piece of it to ['Umar Ibn Al-Khattab]. '[Umar] asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, why did you give this to me when you said about silk what you said?' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: 'I gave it to you not for you to wear.'" '[Umar Ibn Al-Khattab] wore the cloth for his polytheistic brother in Makkah. (Additional narration by [Ahmad bin Salih] from [Ibn Wahb] from [Yunus] and [Amru Ibn Al-Harith] from [Ibn Shihab] from [Salim bin Abdullah] from [his father]: "With silk cloth," and "Then he sent a silk jubbah (shawl) to '[Umar].' He then said: "Sell this and use the proceeds to meet your needs.")
