أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَمَرِضْتُ مَرَضًا أَشْفَيْتُ مِنْهُ فَأَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعُودُنِي فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي مَالًا كَثِيرًا وَلَيْسَ يَرِثُنِي إِلَّا ابْنَتِي أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ بِثُلُثَيْ مَالِي قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَالشَّطْرَ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَالثُّلُثَ قَالَ الثُّلُثَ وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَتْرُكَ وَرَثَتَكَ أَغْنِيَاءَ خَيْرٌ لَهُمْ مِنْ أَنْ تَتْرُكَهُمْ عَالَةً يَتَكَفَّفُونَ النَّاسَ

It has been reported to me ['Amru bin Uthman bin Sa'id] said : has told us [Sufyan] from [Az Zuhri] from ['Amir bin Sa'd] from [his father] he said, "I was sick then the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him visited me. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have a lot of wealth and no one inherits me except my daughter, can I give charity with two-thirds of my wealth?" He said: "No." I then asked again, "what if half?" He said. answered: "No." I asked again, "What if it's a third?" He said: "A third, and a third is a lot. Indeed, leaving your heirs rich is better for you than leaving them poor and begging from people."
