Asal usul berhala kaum Nabi Nuh dan penyebarannya di kalangan bangsa arab
Imam Bukhari : 4539حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ وَقَالَ عَطَاءٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَاصَارَتْ الْأَوْثَانُ الَّتِي كَانَتْ فِي قَوْمِ نُوحٍ فِي الْعَرَبِ بَعْدُ أَمَّا وَدٌّ كَانَتْ لِكَلْبٍ بِدَوْمَةِ الْجَنْدَلِ وَأَمَّا سُوَاعٌ كَانَتْ لِهُذَيْلٍ وَأَمَّا يَغُوثُ فَكَانَتْ لِمُرَادٍ ثُمَّ لِبَنِي غُطَيْفٍ بِالْجَوْفِ عِنْدَ سَبَإٍ وَأَمَّا يَعُوقُ فَكَانَتْ لِهَمْدَانَ وَأَمَّا نَسْرٌ فَكَانَتْ لِحِمْيَرَ لِآلِ ذِي الْكَلَاعِ أَسْمَاءُ رِجَالٍ صَالِحِينَ مِنْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ فَلَمَّا هَلَكُوا أَوْحَى الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ أَنْ انْصِبُوا إِلَى مَجَالِسِهِمْ الَّتِي كَانُوا يَجْلِسُونَ أَنْصَابًا وَسَمُّوهَا بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمْ تُعْبَدْ حَتَّى إِذَا هَلَكَ أُولَئِكَ وَتَنَسَّخَ الْعِلْمُ عُبِدَتْ
"Narrated to us Ibrahim bin Musa, Informed us Hisham from Ibn Juraij, and Atha said: From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them: The idols worshipped by Noah's people later appeared among the Arabs. Wadd was for Kalb in Daumah Al-Jandal, Suwa for Hudhayl, Yaghuth for Murad and then Bani Ghutaif in Jauf near Saba, Ya'uq for Hamdan, and Nasr for Himyar, the family of Dhu Al-Kala. These were names of righteous men from Noah's people. When they died, Satan whispered to their people to erect statues in their gathering places and name them after them. They did so, but the statues were not worshipped until those people died and knowledge faded, then they were worshipped.
