Ibrahim bin Musa narrated to us, 'Isa, who is the son of Yunus, informed us from Isma'il, from Al-Harith bin Shubail, from Abu 'Amr As-Shaibani, who Sa'd Zaid bin Arqam Sa'dto me, 'Indeed, we used to talk during prayer at the time of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him. One of us would speak to his companion about his needs until the verse was revealed: "Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient." (Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:238). So we were commanded to remain silent.'
