حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كُنْتُ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ مِنْ سَرَايَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَاصَ النَّاسُ حَيْصَةً وَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ حَاصَ فَقُلْنَا كَيْفَ نَصْنَعُ وَقَدْ فَرَرْنَا مِنْ الزَّحْفِ وَبُؤْنَا بِالْغَضَبِ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لَوْ دَخَلْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَبِتْنَا ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لَوْ عَرَضْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ تَوْبَةٌ وَإِلَّا ذَهَبْنَا فَأَتَيْنَاهُ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ فَخَرَجَ فَقَالَ مَنْ الْقَوْمُ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا نَحْنُ الْفَرَّارُونَ قَالَ لَا بَلْ أَنْتُمْ الْعَكَّارُونَ أَنَا فِئَتُكُمْ وَأَنَا فِئَةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ حَتَّى قَبَّلْنَا يَدَهُ

Narrated to us [Hasan] Narrated to us [Zuhair] Narrated to us [Yazid bin Abi Ziyad] from [Abdirrahman bin Abi Laila] from [Abdillah bin Umar] he said, I once participated in a sariyah during the time of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. Then people ran away and I was one of them. We said, "How can we do while we are running away from the enemy troops? We will surely return (getting) angry." Then we said again, "It would be better for us to enter the city of Medina, wait a little night, then we surrender ourselves to the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, hopefully he will forgive. If not now, we will just leave first, then we will meet him tomorrow before the morning prayer." The next day, Rasulullah peace and blessings be upon him came out and asked: "Who are you?" we answered, "We are those who fled from the enemy forces." He said: "No, in fact you are an ambush/attacking force of the enemy. I am part of your group and I am a group of Muslims." Said (Ibn Umar), So we approached him until we kissed his hand.
