Narrated to us Mahmud, narrated to us Abu Usamah, narrated to us Hisham, he said: Informed me my father from Asma' bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them), she said: Az-Zubair married me, and he had no wealth on earth, no slave, nothing but a watering tool and his horse. I would feed his horse, draw water, sew his bucket, and knead dough, though I was not good at baking. My Ansari neighbors, who were honest women, baked for me. I would carry date pits from Az-Zubair’s land, which the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him had allotted him, on my head, and it was two-thirds of a farsakh away. One day, while carrying date pits on my head, I met the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him with a group of Ansar. He called me and said, "Ikh, ikh," to carry me behind him. I was shy to walk with men and remembered Az-Zubair’s jealousy, as he was the most jealous of people. The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him realized I was shy and moved on. I went to Az-Zubair and said, "The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him met me while I was carrying date pits on my head, with some of his companions. He made his camel kneel for me to ride, but I was shy and knew your jealousy." He said, "By Allah, your carrying date pits is harder on me than you riding with him." Later, Abu Bakr sent a servant to take care of the horse, as if he had freed me.
